Please remember that we do not pick up any items curbside other than your weekly HOUSEHOLD trash.
If you are needing to get rid of mattress, furniture, wood, toys, grass clipping/leaves, ladders, etc… You will need to take them to the Compost sight for disposal.
Please Note it is against the law to put leaves and other Debrie into any waterway. It is punishable and fines will be issued by our local Iosco Sheriff Department
GRANT TOWNSHIP COMPOST –RECYCLE SITE
Located on South Sand Lake Road – ¼ Mile from M-55- Look for Sign and Gate
Hours of Operation –
Memorial Day through Labor Day,
OPEN Saturdays 10-4 & Wednesday 9-12
After Labor Day – The compost will only be open on SATURDAYS from 10 -2 (There are no Wednesday hours after Labor Day until the following Memorial Day)
During Rifle season the compost will be CLOSED Saturdays until the First Saturday after hunting season then the SATURDAY Winter hours go into effect until Memorial Day Those hours during the winter will be 10-2.
CLOSED for Rifle Hunting Season, the week of the 4th of July & Second Weekend in August for festival
We do not accept any liquid or hazardous materials such as paint, antifreeze, stains, and weed killers. Items with Freon will be accepted: Tire recycling is free currently due to a grant received by Grant Township. Two containers for building material (toilets, shingles, carpet, wood, cement, bricks, windows, doors, insulation, etc…) are available for $30 per cubic yard. (price may vary due to Waste Management fees). No building materials are allowed in the compactor.
Please break down your cardboard boxes. Please recycling is only for clean plastic items stamped with a 1 or 2 within a triangle.
NO PAINT OR OIL IN GARBAGE DUMPSTERS OR COMPOST SITE COMPACTOR
This is a serious environmental issue that could produce thousands of dollars in fines. Paint and oil can also cause damage to our equipment. To properly dispose of water-based paint; open can, stir in kitty litter, leave can open to allow paint to dry. When completely dry, which can take months, you are allowed to put it in the garbage. Oil and oil-based paint must be taken to an approved recycling center.
There is a limit of 5 Bags a week
Trash cans can be picked up when the compost site is open.

WHEN PLACING THE GARBAGE CANS TO THE ROAD – PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT IT IS TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD WITH THE HANDLES AND WHEELS TOWARDS THE ROAD. DO NOT FOLLOW THE PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED INSTRUCTIONS
If and when you get a New Red container, we would appreciate that you remove your permanent bin at the roadside. (the homemade caged style)

As of spring 2019 the Township will be having a Second Person working at the Compost. This person will be checking compost cards when entering as well as writing down brief description of items being disposed. With this change you may experience delays.
