We are looking for volunteers interested in training and joining our local fire department.

Power Outage: The Fire Department will open the fire hall for those that are in need of power for medical devices and for those who need fresh water.

Tornado: In the event of a Tornado the Fire Department personnel will manually activate the Fire Siren for one long blast for notification.

Grant Township has adopted the DNR burning ordinance. State laws govern open debris burning in our township. You must obtain a burn permit and check daily weather conditions before burning leaves, brush, or tree limbs on the ground.

Note: You may be charged fines if damages are caused to someone else’s personal property as well as charged for expenses for the fire call even if you followed the DNR rules and laws.

Recreational Fires vs. Open Burning

Small recreational campfires for cooking or warmth are generally allowed in a contained fire pit without a permit, unless a specific local burn ban has been implemented due to dry weather conditions.

Rules and Regulations to Follow

  • Check Daily Permission: Burning is only permitted if authorized for your specific county on that day. You must check the Michigan DNR Burn Permits Map or call the DNR burn line at 1-866-922-2876 by 10:00 AM each day.
  • Permit Requirements: If “YES” appears for your location on the map, it serves as your official permit. You do not need to print anything, but you must adhere to the daily status.
  • Materials Allowed: You can only burn trees, brush, stumps, evergreen needles, leaves, and grass.
  • Prohibited Materials: Burning household garbage, plastic, rubber, construction waste, or demolition debris is strictly prohibited.
  • Fire Safety: Fires must be a safe distance from structures. You must attend to the fire at all times and have extinguishing tools (like a hose, water bucket, or shovel) immediately on hand.
