November 2017
Grant Township Planning Commission has been looking into the new medical marijuana laws for the state of Michigan.  We would like your opinion.

Marijuana is still illegal in the State of Michigan but Michigan Law allows for qualified patients and registered caregivers. Michigan Medical Marijuana Act prohibits prosecuting or penalizing qualified patients and registered caregivers.

The medical marijuana facilities are divided into Growers, Processors, Provisioning Centers (dispensary), Safety Compliance, and Secure Transporter. There are three classes of growers. Class A growers are allowed up to 500 plants. Class B growers are allowed up to 1000 plants and Class C growers are allowed up to 1500 plants.

A Township can "opt-in" or "opt-out" of allowing Medical Marijuana facilities.  If the Township chooses to "opt-in," they can decide how many of each type of facility will be allowed, what type of fees, etc. are allowed.  If the Township chooses to "opt-out," no medical marijuana facilities will be allowed in the Township.

If a Township does nothing and the County makes it legal, then it is legal without regard of Township wishes.  Once a Township adopts an ordinance, the Township has priority over the County .

The Planning Commission is having a meeting on November 28, 2017 at 7:00 pm to get public opinion and make a decision.
